Jharkhand State was formed on the day of 15th November 2000 by carving out southern districts of Bihar. From that day to till now, total 6 peoples have been elected 10 times to give their services as Chief Minister of Jharkhand. First of all Babulal Marandi has taken the oath for Jharkhand state Chief Minister. He came from Ramgarh Constituency. Arjun Munda served Jharkhand as Chief Minister for the longest period while Jharkhand was governed under President’s Rule for three times within 12 years 239 days from its foundation date. The description of Jharkhand Chief Ministers is given below:
1. Babulal Marandi
Babulal Marandi was elected as first Chief Minister of Newly formed Jharkhand State. He took oath on 15th November 2000. He was elected from Ramgarh Constituency. He worked as Chief Minister of Jharkhand till 17th March 2003. He has given services for 852 days as Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
In 1991 Bhartiya Janata Party gave him ticket to contest from Dumka Lok sabha Constituency but he lost. Between 1996 and 1998 he was selected as president of Bhartiya Janata Party Jharkhand unit. Bhartiya Janata Party won 12 out of 14 Lok Sabha Seats in Jharkhand region under the leadership of Babulal Marandi and he was elected for Chief Minister from B.J.P. in year of 2000.
2. Arjun Munda
Babulal Marandi’s tenure as Chief Minister wasn’t crossed half; he had to tender the resignation from the duty due to pressure of other parties. It opens the ways for Arjun Munda to be elected as Jharkhand’s second Chief Minister. He was candidate of B.J.P. from Kharsawan Constituency. He took the charge on 18th March 2003 and served till 2nd March 2005. He served Jharkhand as Chief Minister for 715 days.
Arjun Munda has been elected for Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for three times. Second time he took charge on 12th March 2005 and remained on the post till 14th September 2006. His tenure during this period was for 555 days. Third time he was elected on 11th September 2010 and remained on the post till 18th January 2013 for 860 days. Total tenure of Arjun Munda was 2130 days which is longest among all Chief Ministers of Jharkhand till date.
3. Shibu Soren
Arjune Munda’s tenure was finished after 2005 Vidhan Sabha Elections. Jharkhand got third Chief Minister as Shibu Soren who is also known as ‘Dishom Guru’. He was candidate of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Dramatically he took charge on 2nd March 2005 and just after 10 days he had to tender the resignation due to not having absolute majority. He left the office on 13th March 2005 and once again the chair of Jharkhand Chief Minister was captured by Arjune Munda. Shibu Soren is also served Jharkhand as Chief Minister for three times. Second time he was elected as Chief Minister 27th August 2008 to 18th January 2009 for 144 days. After that he had to resign the post and it was first time when President’s Rule was enabled in Jharkhand state. Third time he was elected on 30th December 2009 to 31st May 2010 for 152 days only.
4. Madhu koda
Madhu koda was elected as forth Chief Minister of Jharkhand State. He was an Independent candidate from Jagannathpur Constituency. It was third time in Indian Political History when an Independent Legislator was elected as Chief Minister. His tenure was for 2 years as Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He took charge on 14th September 2006 and left the office on 23rd August 2008. He gave his services as Chief Minister of Jharkhand for 709 days.
5. Hemant Soren
Hemant Soren was elected first time as fifth Chief Minister of Jharkhand State in year 2013. He was also from Dumka constituency, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party. Arjun Munda had to resign as a Chief Minister on 18th January 2013 and after that it was third time when President’s Rule was imposed in Jharkhand State. Hemant Soren took the Charge as Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 13th July 2013 and remain till 28th December 20014 for 533 days. In year 2014 Bhartiya Janta Party was won with heavy vote difference and new chapter begun of Full Majority Governance.
6. Raghuvar Das
Raghuvar Das was elected as sixth Chief Minister of Jharkhand State in year 2014. He took charge on 28th December 2014 from Bhartiya Janta Party. He came from East Jamshedpur Constituency after a winning with heavy votes; credit goes to “Modi Waves”. Bhartiya Janta Party and Raghuvar Das formed most stable governance in Jharkhand State till today. He is alone among all Jharkhand Chief Ministers to complete 1000 days in single tenure.
7. President’s Rule
As we know that Jharkhand State came in to existence on 15th November 2000. From the day of its existence to 12th July 2013 or it can be said that in only 13 years of its existence; three times President’s Rule has been imposed. First time 19th January 2009 to 29th December 2009 for 344 days, Second time 1st June 2013 to 11th September 2010 for 102 days and third time 19th January 2013 to 12 July 2013 for 175 days.
10 Interesting Points:
• Jharkhand State Chief Minister post transition has been done 13 times. 10 times Chief Minister was elected and 3 times President’s Rule was applied.
• Shibu Soren was elected as Chief Minister for 10 days only which is lowest tenure among all.
• Raghuvar Das spent 1100 Days as Chief Minister of Jharkhand which highest amount all.
• Arjun Munda and Shibu Soren, both elected as Chief Minister of Jharkhand thrice.
• Only two political parties could form the government in Jharkhand; Bhartiya Janta Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
• Shibu Soren is only Chief Minister of Jharkhand who resigned three times before completing his tenure and two times after his resignation President’s Rule was imposed.
• Jharkhand was governed under President’s Rule for three times within 4622 days from its existence.
• Total Six people have been taken oath for Chief Minister Post of Jharkhand.
• Out 6 peoples 3 candidates belong to Bhartiya Janta Party and 2 belong to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and 1 is Independent.
• Madhu Koda is only Independent Candidate who became Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
