Khunti district is historically known as birth place of Birsa Munda and the center of the activity of the Birsa movement. Khunti district is come in to existence on 12th September 2007. The district was formed by carving out of Ranchi district. Khunti town is headquartering of the district. The district is the second least populous district of Jharkhand State. This district is currently a part of the Red Corridor.
